Studying is scattered across five apps
A flashcard app here, a timer app there, a browser tab of rain sounds you forget to close. Every switch is a chance to lose focus before the card even flips.
Mneme
Mneme pairs smart spaced repetition with a built-in Pomodoro timer and ambient soundscapes, so your flashcards and your focus finally live in one app. Your decks stay in a local database on your device.
Free. Testers keep Mneme Pro free forever. Limited spots, we read every application.

How Mneme brings flashcards, a focus timer and quiet into one app, in under a minute.
Studying has a way of sprawling. Flashcards in one window, a timer in another, and a tab of rain sounds you forgot to close.
Mneme brings it all into one quiet room.
Each card comes back just before you'd forget it. Say how well you knew it, and Mneme plans the next review. So each day, you only see what's due.
When it's time to focus, a timer keeps the rhythm, while rain, waves, or brown noise fill the quiet.
Your cards stay on your machine, and studying works offline.
Session finished. Nice, steady work.
Mneme. A calmer way to remember what matters.
Pick a deck and start a session.

Cards, scheduling, timer, and ambient sound live together in one native app that keeps your data on your own device and gets out of your way while you study.
Pieces that were built to work together from day one, not bolted on after.
Scheduling runs on FSRS, a modern algorithm that models how your memory actually decays, so reviews land right before you'd forget, not on a fixed schedule. It's the only scheduler Mneme has, so it's on by default with nothing to enable or tune. See how it compares to the older SM-2 algorithm in our deep dive.
Paste a chapter or drop in a PDF and Mneme drafts the cards for you. Bring your own API key or a local Ollama model and deck generation runs on your own key.
A built-in timer keeps your study and break rhythm honest, tracked right alongside your review stats so focus and retention stop being separate charts.
Your decks and history live in a local database on your device. Buying Mneme Pro needs a free Mneme account (Google or email) and a light periodic connectivity check to confirm your license; AI features are the only other thing that talks to a server, and only if you turn them on.
Write them yourself, import a file, or let Mneme turn your notes into a deck.
Mneme's FSRS engine tells you exactly which cards are due today, and no others.
The Pomodoro timer and ambient sound mixer keep you focused from first card to last.
Anki is excellent, mature software with a huge community. Mneme is a narrower, opinionated alternative: FSRS on by default, a focus timer and ambient sound built in from day one. Anki still defaults to the older SM-2 algorithm; see what changes with FSRS.
We compared the two feature by feature, including the parts where Anki is still the better tool: cross-device sync, mobile apps and its add-on ecosystem.

Mneme is nearly ready. A small group of testers gets in first, and every tester keeps Mneme Pro free forever.
Limited spots. We read every application.
Yes. Everyone who confirms their spot on the waitlist gets 33% off when Mneme Pro launches: 33% off your first year of a Pro subscription, or 33% off Pro Lifetime, whichever you choose. It does not recur past the first year. We will send the code in the launch email.
Apply on the beta page. Spots are limited and we read every application, then email the testers we pick. Testers keep Mneme Pro free forever, and some also get the hosted AI features (AI Basic or AI Plus) free for the beta. Windows and macOS only. In return we ask you to use Mneme for real revision and tell us what breaks.
We're still building toward the public launch. The beta is open now, so you can apply and use Mneme before then. Join the waitlist as well and we'll email you the moment the launch happens, nothing before that.
Windows and macOS, as a native desktop app built with Tauri. There is no mobile app and no cross-device sync in the first release. Both are on the roadmap for a later release.
Yes. Your decks, cards and review history live in a local SQLite database on your device, and studying never needs a connection. Mneme Pro re-checks your license with our server periodically and keeps working offline in between, with a grace period if a check cannot get through. The AI features are the only other part that talks to a server, and only if you turn them on.
Yes, and it is the only scheduler Mneme has. FSRS is on from the first card, with nothing to enable or tune, on the free tier as well as on Pro. If you want the detail, we wrote up what changes between SM-2 and FSRS.
Because the two were always used together and never lived together: a flashcard app in one window, a Pomodoro timer in another, a browser tab of rain sounds in a third. Every switch between them is a chance to lose focus before the card even flips. In Mneme the timer and the ambient mixer run alongside your reviews, and focus sessions are tracked next to your retention stats.
A free Mneme account (Google or email) is needed to buy Mneme Pro or to use the hosted AI. Pro re-checks with our server periodically (at least monthly, and around a subscription's renewal date). It keeps working offline in between, with a grace period if a check cannot reach the server. Bring your own AI API key, or point Mneme at a local Ollama model, and deck generation runs on your own key instead.
Free covers up to 300 cards across unlimited decks, with the full FSRS scheduler, the focus timer, and the ambient mixer, no strings attached. Mneme Pro unlocks unlimited cards, the stats view, and the custom theme editor, as a subscription billed yearly or monthly, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase if you would rather pay once. AI-assisted deck generation is separate again, and optional either way.
Mneme Pro is a subscription, billed yearly for the best value or monthly if you prefer, and it funds the ongoing work: continued scheduler development, updates, and new features. There is also a one-time Lifetime purchase for people who would rather pay once. Waitlist members get 33% off Pro at launch. The hosted AI plans are optional monthly subscriptions for people who want AI deck generation without managing their own API key.
Yes. Mneme imports Anki's own .apkg deck packages directly, including your review progress, images, audio and math, and cloze cards keep working since Mneme uses Anki's own {{c1::answer}} syntax. Tags and custom text colors don't carry over yet. CSV, TSV, JSON and plain text work too.
We only use it to send you occasional email updates about Mneme, like launch news. See how we handle your email for full details, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
